Job summary

Tecan Austria GmbH is seeking a Field Automation Engineer to support liquid handling automation in the field. You will install, troubleshoot, and maintain instruments, develop software and tutorials, and train customers on applications and workflow integration.

The role requires a BS in Life Science or CS, at least 3 years in lab automation, robotics, and scripting, plus strong communication and travel readiness. A field-ready mindset and ability to work with customers complete the profile.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Life Science or Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of lab experience with Evoware, Fluent, Magellan, and other Tecan software.
  • Minimum 3 years robotics/automation experience and scripting.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong PC skills including Windows OS and Office.

Responsibilities

  • Install, develop and implement applications on Tecan liquid handling platforms.
  • Perform instrument installation and software development with Evoware/Fluent scripts.
  • Perform problem diagnosis, service, and preventative maintenance on Tecan instruments.
  • Develop complex software applications including liquid classes and device integration.
  • Provide customer training on use, application development maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain service records and inventory; travel as required.

Field Automation Engineer

Are you passionate about laboratory automation, technical problem-solving, and helping customers maintain reliable liquid handling systems? We are seeking an Field Automation Engineer to provide field-based technical support for Liquid Handling automation platforms.

In this role, you will serve as a customer-facing technical resource supporting Tecan automation systems through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installation support, and customer service activities. You will partner closely with Field Automation Engineers, customers, Sales teams, and internal technical groups to ensure instrument reliability and customer satisfaction.

You will provide hands-on technical expertise throughout the customer lifecycle, including system maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, documentation, training support, and workflow assistance.

Your contribution:

  • Install, develop and implement applications, integrations, mechanical service, customer training, and sales demonstrations of applications on Tecan liquid handling platforms, including EVO and/or FLUENT.
  • Performs instrument installation, integration of third-party devices and development of software applications by writing Evowareand/or Fluentscripts.
  • Performs problem diagnosis, service, and preventative maintenance on Tecan instruments.
  • Performs complex software application development, including developing liquid classes, and device integration at customer sites
  • Provides customer training on use, application development maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Share information obtained from unique problems or specialized training to the FAE Team and the Tecan organization.
  • Performs complex demonstrations and installs.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain a travel schedule and to travel on short notice.
  • Complete essential service records according to company policy.
  • Maintains appropriate parts inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Provides back‑up service support outside of assigned territory as needed.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications.
  • Handles essential tasks as assigned and responds to change productively.
  • Follows all local safety procedures, State and Federal OSHA Regulations, and reports any safety concerns.

Your background

  • BS degree in Life Science or Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience working with Evoware,Fluent,Magellanand other Tecansoftware is desired.
  • Minimum of 3 years robotics/automation experience and writing scripts is desired.
  • Electro/mechanical experience a plus
  • Well‑developed PC skill level, including MS Windows 2000/XP, Windows 7, WIN10 and Office Suite.
  • Posses a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to successfully complete and pass all training courses defined in the MTP
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to multi task
  • Strong organizational and follow‑up skills
  • Ability to complete all tasks assigned in a timely fashion
  • High level of commitment and initiative
  • Willingness to disseminate new information obtained to automation team members
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups inside and outside of the organization
  • Ability to work effectively with customers
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time

Salary range of $85,000 – $105,000(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with industry data.)
