Job summary

Tecan Austria GmbH is seeking a proactive R&D Project Manager to lead development projects end-to-end with ownership for mid-sized initiatives. You will ensure on-time delivery, budget adherence, and achievement of KPIs within highly regulated settings.

You will coordinate cross-functional teams across locations, manage stakeholders, and drive projects from feasibility through industrialization, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in project management, preferably for complex instruments or automated solutions.
  • PhD plus project management training will set you apart.
  • Fluent in English; German a plus.
  • Proven experience leading highly regulated product development projects.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and build project teams with cross-functional skills.
  • Manage planning, staffing, and execution of development projects for lab automation and diagnostics.
  • Plan, monitor, and report on complex projects with multiple interfaces.
  • Maintain proactive communication with stakeholders and management.
  • Demonstrate leadership and coordinate team across locations.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, IEC 61010, and machinery directive.
  • Lead cross-functional activities from feasibility to industrialization.

Your contribution

In this pivotal role, you will take the lead on development projects from end to end, ensuring timely delivery, budget compliance, and achievement of key performance objectives. You will have full ownership and accountability for mid-sized projects, including internal initiatives and customer specific projects.

Responsibilities
  • Defining and building project teams with the right cross-functional mix of professional skills.
  • Managing the planning, staffing, and execution of development projects for lab automation and clinical diagnostics according to applicable development processes.
  • Planning, monitoring, and reporting on complex projects, coordinating interfaces with related projects.
  • Ensuring proactive and proper communication within the organization and with stakeholders, including management board members.
  • Demonstrating clear leadership within the organization towards all management levels.
  • Coordinating team members located across multiple locations.
  • Through leadership and methodological competence, ensure efficient implementation and adherence to processes, guidelines, and regulations, such as: ISO 13485, IEC 61010, and the machinery directive (2006/42/EC).
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional team activities across departments to ensure successful delivery of project goals - from feasibility studies and product development through design transfer and industrialization.
  • Drive effective stakeholder management and proactively resolve conflicts within the project team and across stakeholders.
Your background

  • BSc or MSc in a technical degree in a technical field, preferably in engineering, life sciences, mechanical or electrical disciplines.
  • A PhD in Life Sciences, along with project management education, PMP or similar certifications, and training in change management and leadership, will set you apart.
  • At least 3 years of experience in project management, preferably in the development of complex instruments or automated solutions for diagnostic applications.
  • Experience in product management and business administration is a bonus.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages (German and others) are a plus.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven experience in leading highly regulated product development projects, with a focus on automation, assay development, and agile project management.
