Job summary

System One, Inc. seeks three Archaeology Field Technicians for a two-phase field project in Paducah, KY. You will conduct survey, shovel testing, excavation, and artifact documentation under a field supervisor, working outdoors in varying weather. Pay is $20–$27 per hour with per diem for field and travel days.

Phase 1 runs Nov 2–13, 2026, with Phase 2 tentatively Nov 30–Dec 18, 2026, weather permitting. Three openings for temporary/project-based work.

Qualifications

• Previous archaeological field experience or completion of an archaeological field school preferred.
• Familiarity with survey methods, soil documentation, and artifact identification.
• Ability to walk on uneven terrain, perform repetitive digging, and carry field equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in changing temperatures and weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assist with archaeological survey, shovel testing, excavation, and other field tasks as assigned.
• Identify, recover, and document cultural materials using established project procedures.
• Maintain accurate field notes, excavation records, and artifact documentation.
• Use maps, GPS equipment, and standard archaeological field tools.
• Follow project safety requirements and directions from field leadership.
• Work collaboratively to meet project goals and maintain quality field documentation.
