Job summary

Sundance Consultants, part of True Environmental, is seeking an on-call Temporary Field Technician for archaeological fieldwork across the Western United States. The role pays $20–25/hour and requires a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or related field with field experience.

You’ll conduct surveys, collect data, and record findings in varying terrain and weather. The position is temporary, part-time, non-exempt, and involves travel with per diem typically at a GSA rate and lodging

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field is required.
• At least 6 months of archaeological field experience or field school experience.
• Experience performing archaeological survey and excavation.
• Ability to work in terrain requiring long hikes (5–10 miles/day).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with others and be proactive on projects.
• Attention to detail and accurate note taking.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must comply with safety standards and wear safety gear.
• Access to a laptop or computer for timesheets and reports.
• COVID-19 vaccination required as a condition of employment, subject to accommodations.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds on occasion.
• Fit-for-work testing including Drug & Alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Conducting archaeological pedestrian surveys.
• Archaeological data collection (GPS, photos, site forms, sketches).
• Subsurface testing or artifact identification.
• Measuring and recording artifacts.
• Preparing high-quality field notes.
• Work as part of a team or independently as needed.
• Other duties as requested.
