Job summary

NV5, Inc. is seeking a full-time Project Archaeologist for its Cary, NC office. The role involves field surveys, reporting, and GIS-supported evaluation of archaeological resources across transportation, energy, and municipal projects.

Location flexibility may be possible within NC/SC based on experience. The candidate will conduct research, fieldwork, data recovery, and coordination with clients and agencies, reporting to the Senior Archaeologist.

Qualifications

• Professional archaeological experience in NC required.
• Master’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field.
• Current standing member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) or qualified archaeologist under the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications for Archaeology (36 CFR Part 61)
• Experience with Microsoft Office and ArcGIS software
• Proficiency in utilization of GPS equipment to assist with site boundary delineations
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license prior to employment

Responsibilities

• Conduct Section 106 and/or due diligence assessments for infrastructure and energy projects, including fieldwork/survey, archaeological resource identification and evaluation, and project effects assessment.
• Complete or assist with additional Section 106 tasks, including leading or assisting with consultation and project mitigation.
• Conduct artifact analysis and curation efforts.
• Complete other archaeology-related tasks as needed; including proposed avoidance/minimization measures for preservation of resources.
• Manage the performance of individual projects and coordinate with colleagues, clients, agencies, and the public.
• Maintain effective communication with project team, co-workers, and clients.
• Assist in business development and marketing efforts for NV5’s archaeological practice in the southeastern United States.
