Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks an Associate Project Archaeologist for the Rocky Mountain Plains subregion. The role supports as-needed fieldwork and coordination from our Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN or Bismarck, ND offices, with travel up to 30%.

The candidate will assist on cultural resource projects from desktop reviews to agency deliverables, under supervision. Strong teamwork and problem-solving are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
  • Meets the requirements to be an Archaeological Principal Investigator in North Dakota.
  • Experience with the archaeology of the Midwest.
  • Minimum of three years CRM experience on diverse projects with increasing responsibility.
  • Minimum of one year managing all aspects of archaeological projects including reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project managers on budgeting, scheduling, fieldwork, and reporting.
  • Conduct background research for archaeological studies, including records searches.
  • Ensure preliminary research is organized and fieldwork resources are ready.
  • Coordinate with agencies, subconsultants, construction crews, and monitors.
  • Supervise fieldwork including survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring.
