Job summary

Terracon in Houston is seeking an experienced archaeologist to lead fieldwork, artifact identification, and reporting across a broad range of projects. You will supervise field crews and contribute to archival research and proposals.

Responsibilities include ensuring safety, quality, and thorough documentation, while presenting findings at professional conferences and mentoring junior staff. A graduate degree and 2+ years of related experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field (MA, MS, PhD) and 2+ years of related experience.
• Familiar with the cultural history of the region and surrounding areas.
• SOI qualification preferred.
• A valid driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning.
• Understand and practice quality acumen.
• Support consistent quality standards on proposal and project delivery.
• Conduct fieldwork and write small to medium sized, relatively uncomplicated reports.
• Manage a field crew and supervise Field Technicians and Crew Chiefs.
• May serve as Principal Investigator on survey and testing projects.
• Conduct archival research or field documentation and ensure proper recording and analyses.
• Confidently identify artifacts and interpret stratigraphy.
• Ensure field forms, data collection, and sample collection are complete and accurate.
• Prepare simple proposals.
• Presents papers at professional conferences.
• Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
