Job summary

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services seeks an APS Investigator Specialist to protect elderly and disabled adults who cannot protect themselves. You will conduct field visits, interview clients and families, assess risk, and develop service plans to ensure safety and well-being.

This role requires flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to work after hours as needed. Training and advancement opportunities, including certification programs, are offered to support

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminology, sociology, or related field.
• Experience in social or protective services preferred.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Investigates reports of abuse, neglect or exploitation of elderly or disabled adults to assess urgency and gather information.
• Provides services after normal hours and on weekends to maintain 24-hour coverage.
• Develops individualized service plans and maintains detailed case documentation.
• Makes legal referrals, testifies in court, and coordinates with partners for safety.
• Promotes cultural diversity and community outreach to inform the public.
