Job description

Help researchers turn innovative single-cell technologies into successful experiments.

Atrandi Biosciences pioneers droplet- and semi-permeable capsule (SPC) microcompartment-based technologies for single-cell research. SPCs encapsulate individual cells within a porous shell that retains cells and larger biological molecules while allowing appropriately sized reagents to pass through. This enables sequential processing within the same compartment, supporting flexible single-cell omics workflows.

We are seeking an experienced Field Application Scientist to guide customers from initial technical evaluation through hands‑on training, successful experiments and continued adoption. You will help researchers select appropriate workflows, generate high‑quality data and resolve technical challenges.

Working closely with our sales, support, product and R&D teams, you will support direct customers and distributor partners. Your primary goal will be to accelerate customer adoption and experimental success while contributing to effective, scalable scientific support.

Remote, U.S. West Coast; California preferred | Full-time

Reports to: Head of the Global FAS Program

What you’ll do
  • Support pre‑sales evaluations: Understand customers’ research goals, recommend suitable workflows, and deliver technical presentations and product demonstrations in partnership with sales.
  • Train and onboard customers: Deliver on‑site and remote training that helps users operate instruments and perform supported applications confidently.
  • Guide experimental success: Advise on experimental design, sample preparation, single‑cell workflows, library preparation, sequencing requirements and data quality assessment.
  • Resolve technical issues: Investigate sample, assay, workflow and instrument problems, communicate practical next steps, and coordinate complex escalations with internal specialists.
  • Develop scientific resources: Create and improve technical presentations, product and onboarding materials, user guides and application notes.
  • Support partners and new applications: Provide scientific guidance to customers and distributor partners across assigned territories, including support for product launches and early‑access programs.
  • Build scientific relationships: Engage researchers, core facilities and key opinion leaders through consultations, seminars and scientific events.
  • Improve the customer experience: Maintain accurate customer and support records, follow issues through resolution, and share actionable feedback with product and R&D teams.
Required qualifications
  • At least two years of customer-facing experience supporting single‑cell omics applications as a Field Application Scientist, technical support scientist or in a comparable role.
  • A master’s degree or higher in molecular biology, genomics, biochemistry, cell biology or a related discipline.
  • Hands‑on proficiency with single‑cell sequencing workflows, including sample preparation, library preparation and quality control.
  • Working knowledge of NGS analysis workflows, with the ability to interpret data quality metrics, recognize common failure modes and explain results to customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver scientific presentations and practical laboratory training to audiences with different levels of expertise.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing customer priorities.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively across commercial and scientific teams.
  • Experience using Salesforce or a similar CRM, or willingness to learn and maintain accurate customer records.
  • Fluent spoken and written English, with the ability to clearly explain scientific concepts, deliver customer training and prepare technical documentation.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future. Atrandi does not provide employment visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience with droplet or other microcompartment‑based single‑cell technologies.
  • Experience with single‑cell RNA sequencing, DNA sequencing or multiomics applications.
  • Expertise in cell and nuclei isolation, tissue dissociation or challenging sample types.
  • Familiarity with flow cytometry or fluorescence‑based cell sorting.
  • Experience supporting distributor partners, product launches or early‑access programs.
How success is measured

Success in this role means customers can confidently use Atrandi’s technologies, technical issues receive timely and effective resolution, and scientific support helps customers adopt and expand their use of supported applications.

Performance will be evaluated through customer training outcomes, support responsiveness and resolution quality, contributions to product adoption, and collaboration with customers and internal teams.

  • A valid U.S. driver’s license is required for business driving between customer locations and transporting demonstration equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 lb during demonstrations, training and customer visits, with or without reasonable accommodation.
