Join a dynamic scientific environment where biology, bioinformatics, and data analysis converge to advance research and discovery. In this role, you will help scientists transform complex biological datasets into meaningful insights using cutting‑edge pathway analysis and next-generation sequencing (NGS) software. You will combine your scientific expertise with customer‑facing skills to deliver tailored demonstrations, workshops, and training sessions. Working closely with customers, you will identify research challenges and recommend effective analytical solutions. You will also collaborate with sales, marketing, customer support, and product development teams to strengthen customer relationships and influence future innovations. This remote, field‑based opportunity offers intellectual variety, professional growth, and the chance to make a tangible impact on scientific research.

Accountabilities
  • Develop expert‑level knowledge of bioinformatics and biological interpretation software, including pathway analysis, genomics, and multi‑omics data analysis solutions.
  • Identify customer research objectives and challenges, translating them into tailored software applications and analytical workflows.
  • Deliver customized scientific demonstrations, presentations, workshops, and case studies that highlight the value of bioinformatics tools in real‑world research contexts.
  • Analyze customer‑provided or publicly available datasets to develop relevant examples and demonstrate software capabilities.
  • Train and support new customers through onboarding sessions, product tutorials, and scientific training seminars.
  • Act as a scientific advisor and customer advocate, gathering feedback and communicating product requirements to marketing, engineering, and research and development teams.
  • Partner with sales teams to develop technical relationships with key accounts, support pre‑sales activities, and contribute to customer acquisition and retention.
  • Support marketing initiatives, scientific conferences, and targeted industry events through presentations, demonstrations, and other customer‑facing activities.
  • Manage multiple projects and customer engagements effectively while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high standard of scientific and commercial service.
Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent experience in biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, genetics, or a related discipline, with relevant laboratory experience and a strong background in biological data interpretation.
  • Expertise or demonstrated experience in gene expression analysis, sequence variant interpretation, microbial data analysis, or related computational biology applications.
  • Postdoctoral research experience is an advantage, and previous experience as a Field Application Scientist or in a similar customer‑facing scientific role is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics software such as Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA), OmicSoft, and CLC Genomics Workbench is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of public biological datasets and repositories, including GEO, TCGA, SRA, and GTEx, is desirable.
  • Experience with next‑generation sequencing workflows, including single‑cell RNA sequencing, RNA‑seq, DNA‑seq, or related analytical pipelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven presentation and public‑speaking abilities.
  • Ability to explain complex computational concepts, analytical methods, and algorithms clearly to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to understand customer needs and develop practical, scientifically sound solutions.
  • A proactive, self‑motivated, and results‑oriented approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a commercial environment.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30-60% of the time for customer visits, workshops, and regional or national events.
  • Ability to work independently from a home office while collaborating effectively with geographically distributed teams.
  • Candidates located within commuting distance of Boston or Cambridge are preferred, although other locations across the United States will be considered for applicants willing to travel.
