Job description

Protein Characterisation & Binding Affinity | East Coast | Remote (ideally based in Mid-Atlantic, Boston is also possible)
Must have a valid and clean driver's license

We're partnering with an innovative scientific instrumentation company that develops advanced biophysical tools. This is a highly visible, customer-facing position, combining scientific expertise, technical problem-solving, training, and application support. You'll work closely with researchers throughout the drug discovery and development process, helping them implement new technologies and generate meaningful scientific outcomes.

The Opportunity

As a Field Application Scientist, you'll become a trusted scientific advisor to customers, supporting the successful adoption and application of advanced protein characterisation and biophysical analysis technologies.

You'll work alongside commercial, product, and R&D teams while engaging directly with scientists in both industry and academia.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Delivering customer demonstrations, evaluations, and application-driven presentations
  • Supporting pre-sales discussions and advising customers on experimental design and workflow optimisation
  • Installing instruments and providing on-site technical support
  • Delivering customer training and ensuring successful technology adoption
  • Presenting scientific data at conferences, workshops, webinars, and customer events
  • Acting as the scientific voice of the customer, providing market feedback and application insights to internal teams
  • Contributing to application notes, technical content, and scientific communications
  • Supporting researchers working across protein characterisation, biologics development, drug discovery, and related applications
What we're (ideally) looking for:
  • MSc or PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline
  • Hands-on experience with protein analysis, biologics, drug discovery, or biophysical characterisation techniques
  • Strong understanding of protein stability, binding interactions, thermal shift assays, or related methodologies
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach and genuine passion for supporting scientific research
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the territory (approximately 50-60%)
Nice-to-haves:
  • Customer-facing experience within applications, technical support, scientific sales support, or field-based roles
  • Experience supporting biopharma customers
  • Knowledge of antibody discovery, formulation development, biologics, or protein therapeutics
  • Experience presenting scientific work at conferences, workshops, or seminars

This is an opportunity to join a growing organisation operating at the forefront of life science innovation. You'll work with world-leading researchers, gain exposure to a diverse range of cutting-edge applications, and play a direct role in supporting scientific breakthroughs that have a meaningful impact on human health.

For scientists looking to move into a highly collaborative, customer-facing position without leaving the science behind, this could be a great next step.
