Job summary

PennEngineering in Shelby Township, MI seeks a Field Application Engineer to join the Field Application Engineering Team. You will support customers with PEM products, develop fastener concepts, and coordinate product testing and specifications in collaboration with global teams.

The role requires a mechanical engineering background, 2 years of design experience with 3D modeling, and travel both domestically and internationally. Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology required.
  • Two (2) years of engineering design experience including experience using 3D modeling software.
  • Ability to coordinate engineering activities within a sales and marketing function.
  • Effective communication skills including presenting internally and externally across regions and cultures.
  • Independent working skills with minimal supervision while maintaining professionalism.
  • Proven project leadership capability.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally by air.
  • Strong working knowledge of techniques and materials used in manufacturing mechanical fasteners.

Responsibilities

  • Independently apply engineering principles to mechanical problem solving.
  • Act as the voice of the customer for assigned accounts, managing long-term data-driven projects.
  • Develop new fastener applications and adoptions.
  • Create CAD drawings in Creo and coordinate testing/specs with customers.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and global engineering teams.

PennEngineering is seeking a motivated, creative individual to be a part of the Field Application Engineering Team in Michigan. As a Field Application Engineer at PennEngineering, you’ll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things. Our Field Application Engineers are a critical source of technical support serving as the PennEngineering liaison for our customers and their engineering departments. In this role, you will develop and coordinate strategic plans for new product concepts and all associated product testing. You will be accountable for recommending improvements to products, processes, and performance. You will be responsible for key customers in the automotive industry and beyond, working in exciting and unique situations in rapidly growing industries. This position may require the individual to specialize in multiple market segments throughout our successful portfolio such as Micro Products, Panel Fasteners, and additional PEM core product. What You Will Do
  • Independently utilize engineering principles, training and knowledge in the execution of duties with emphasis on mechanical problem solving.
  • As the "voice of the customer" for assigned accounts with our PEM and SI products, you will manage long-term, data-driven projects.
  • Produce new fastener applications and adoptions.
  • Maintain a high level of technical competency in all areas relating to designing special products that meet the needs of our customers. This includes metal forming, metal cutting, plastic molding, and assembly. Computer literacy is required to utilize quoting, CAD, and enterprise system tools.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness in Manufacturing, Quality, New Product Innovation, Sales and Marketing disciplines relating to new customer applications.
  • Make recommendations to your direct supervisor to improve product design, product manufacturability, quoting process, and productivity.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with various functions domestically and internationally including Sales, Marketing, New Product Innovation, Manufacturing, and global engineering teams.
  • You will also spend your time:
    • Developing Special fastener design solutions
    • Conducting Product/Technical Presentations
    • Reviewing designs with Engineering and Manufacturing for approval/suggestions
    • Creating CAD drawings in Creo
    • Coordinating application testing/specs with PennEngineering and the customer, rep or distributor.
    • Supply technical information for customer quotations
    • Perform your duties completely in a professional manner and with minimal supervision.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Independent working skills with minimal supervision while maintaining professionalism in all interactions with customers and internal teams.
  • Proven project leadership capability.
  • Successful record of completing Sales / Marketing or Engineering assignments.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of the various techniques and materials used in manufacturing mechanical fasteners.
  • Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally by air.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
