Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking an Applications Engineer to work onsite in Waterford, Michigan. This role involves designing installation systems for fasteners and requires travel of 25-50% within the Midwest. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to work under pressure. Familiarity with mechanical and electropneumatic systems is essential. Excellent communication skills are also required.

Qualifications

  • Basic practical knowledge of HMI/PLC (Allen Bradley & Siemens).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

Job description

Are you looking to work for a company that provides an innovative work environment, and your voice is heard?

We have an immediate need for an Applications Engineer to work onsite in Waterford Michigan. This role will also require travel to various clients. Travel is projected to be roughly 25-50 percent but most of the travel will be in the Midwest or local.

NO SPONSORSHIP IS AVAILABLE FOR THIS ROLE.

The Applications Engineer will design and specify installation systems for mechanically attached fasteners.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with customer to clarify and document customer system needs: Fastener type, panel info, vehicle platform
  • Assess and document installation feasibility through CAD integration of tooling into panel
  • Specify and document all components needed to meet customer installation requirements
  • Perform tooling design/modifications and document as well as work with Design group for creation of new tools
  • Create budgetary quote based on system specification. Follow up with customer(s) for official quote and receipt of PO. Determine and document required delivery dates
  • Monitor progress of system components to assure on-time delivery
  • Provide ongoing support for customer production needs.
  • Assist Service Team to diagnose & troubleshoot issues with installation heads, fastener feeders, and electropneumatic kits (in-die & manual operations)
  • Cooperate with team providing feedback for improvement opportunities and lessons learned
  • Work with customer to clarify, document and manage quotes for fasteners
Safety
  • Follow all safety requirements to avoid injury to self and fellow employees.
  • Create and maintain a safe work environment; repair and/or report non-conformances to company safety policies and guidelines
  • Perform the necessary safety requirements to avoid injury to self and fellow employees
Travel Requirements
  • Requires travel 25-50% in the surrounding states.
  • Overnight travel may be required
Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelors degree mechanical engineering or related field preferred
  • Proven competency in mechanical and electropneumatic systems (simple and complex)
  • Basic practical knowledge of HMI/PLC (Allen Bradley & Siemens)
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required for communicating with the team and the customer
  • Experience in tool & die (Presses & Dies) is beneficial but not required
  • Good verbal and written skills are highly sought VIA Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Problem solving skills
  • Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Experience working with Siemens or Allen Bradley PLC controllers
  • Ability to use PLCs for machine design integration, troubleshooting, and system optimization
  • Background supporting automated assembly or installation equipment within a manufacturing environment
  • Comfortable interfacing with tooling, automation, and mechanical installation systems
  • Automotive manufacturing or industrial equipment experience strongly preferred
