Our client, a high-growth semiconductor company focused on high-speed interconnect and AI infrastructure solutions, is seeking a Field Application Engineer to own West Coast field application engineering for their Interconnect portfolio: PCIe retimers, PCIe switches, and active cables.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing engineering role with real commercial impact. You will be the primary technical face of the company to customers in the region, carrying products from first evaluation through design-in, bring-up, and volume production, and spending real time in the San Jose lab working on server platforms.
This role is based in San Jose / the Bay Area, with regular lab time and travel to customer sites across the West Coast.
Responsibilities of a Field Application Engineer (FAE):
- Serve as the first level of technical contact for Interconnect customers across the West Coast, owning issues end to end.
- Drive design-in activity from initial evaluation through bring-up, debug, qualification, and volume production ramp.
- Work hands-on in the San Jose lab: setting up server platforms, flashing modules, reproducing customer issues, and running experiments.
- Build, configure, and run product demos for trade shows and customer visits.
- Deliver product training and technical presentations to customer engineering teams and internal sales and field colleagues.
- Work with AE, engineering, CPU vendors, and IP vendors to resolve customer issues quickly and root-cause field failures.
- Run onsite customer visits, acting as the go-to technical person for your accounts.
- Feed customer requirements, competitive intelligence, and field learnings back into product definition and roadmap planning.
Requirements of a Field Application Engineer (FAE):
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years in a customer-facing engineering role (FAE, AE, or similar) in semiconductors, hardware, or a related technical industry.
- Comfortable working hands-on in a lab: board bring-up, hardware debug, and standard bench equipment.
- Strong understanding of the data center ecosystem (CSP, OEM, ODM, and similar).Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to be the technical voice in front of a customer.
- Exposure to high-speed interconnects (retimers, PCIe, SSDs), server platforms, signal integrity, or CXL/Ethernet/SerDes standards is a strong plus, not a requirement.
