Job summary

ZEISS in Huntersville, NC is seeking a Field Applications Engineer to support pre- and post-sales activities, including product demonstrations, training, and on-site support for our hardware and software systems. This consultative role requires strong technical and customer-facing skills, with travel and hybrid work arrangement.

You will work with field sales and HOM network, deliver high-quality demonstrations, provide training, and assist with product introduction to the North American market,

Qualifications

• A four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics is required.
• Equivalent work-related experience may be considered.
• 2-3 years of professional work experience.
• Able to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Understanding of 3D mathematics and programming techniques in modern languages.
• Excellent verbal communication and ability to present to groups.
• Self-starter, comfortable working independently.

Location/Region

This position is located in our offices in Huntersville, NC or Wixom, MI living within a commutable distance to either location. Hybrid work when not traveling, 3 days in office and 2 days remote. Average annual travel is up to 50% domestically.

What's the role?

Field Applications Engineers assist our customers and our Zeiss sales team with pre-sales activities such as product demonstration and sales support, as well as post-sales activities such as helping customers with understanding and applying our hardware and software systems. This support is provided in a variety of ways, including product demonstration, formal and custom training classes, telephone and on-site support, programming and measurement services. This important consultative role requires professional conduct and customer orientation at all times.

Here's what you'll do:

• Provide technical consultation to field sales personnel and the HandsOnMetrology (HOM dealer network) in matters relating to advanced applications and systems.
• Facilitate the flow and accuracy of technical information to the field sales force.
• Maintain a focus on advanced applications and new Zeiss technology.
• Support the introduction of new products into the North American Market.
• Provide technical training programs to the field sales personnel and HOM dealer network.
• Plan, prepare, and perform high quality customer demonstrations, both in-house and in the field as needed.
• Provide technical after-sales support for customers to help insure successful use of ZEISS systems.
• Provide customer training as needed to supplement the Applications Engineering staff.
• Respond to all customer related software/applications support questions.
• Respond to any Carl Zeiss Industrial Quality Solutions department requiring software/applications support.
• Aid with software & system testing in support of product development.
• File accurate software performance reports.
• Provide technical after-sales support for customers to help ensure successful use of our systems
• Provide applications expertise for necessary project-related activities
• Respond to customer requests for quotation which typically includes analyzing inspection requirements and quoting part programming costs.
• Estimate anticipated Gage R&R results.
• On-site implementation of quoted application items.
• The ability to understand and support IT related issues
• Windows Operating System knowledge.
• The ability to understand Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts.
• The ability to understand Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Other duties as required.

Do you qualify?

• Understanding of 3D mathematics and computer programming techniques in any of the modern scientific computer languages.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and comfortable presenting technical information to small or large audiences.
• Self-starter, comfortable working independently.

Working Environment:

Ability to write clear and concise technical reports.

• Ability to perform in a Teacher/Trainer related capacity as necessary during product demonstrations or customer training classes and relate the benefits of our products to problem solutions for customers.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently from problem statement to solution.
• Ability to learn independently to find solutions to potential customer measurement problems
• Willing to travel approximately 50 % of the time. Must be a team player across the organization.
• Ability to lift 50lbs from floor to table height.
• Possession of a valid driver's license
