Job summary

ZEISS Group in Huntersville, NC, is seeking a Field Applications Engineer to assist customers and the ZEISS sales team with pre-sales demonstrations and post-sales training on hardware and software systems. The role requires strong engineering and programming knowledge, plus the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.

The position emphasizes annual travel around 50% domestically, with a hybrid work model (3 days in office, 2 days remote).

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics or equivalent experience.
• 2-3 years of professional work experience.
• Able to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Understanding of 3D mathematics and programming in modern scientific languages.
• Excellent verbal communication and ability to present technical information to varied audiences.
• Self-starter, able to work independently.
• Willing to travel approximately 50% of the time.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical consultation to field sales personnel and HOM dealer network on advanced applications and systems.
• Facilitate flow and accuracy of technical information to field sales.
• Support introduction of new products into the North American market and provide training.
• Plan and perform high-quality customer demonstrations in-house and in the field.
• Provide after-sales support to ensure successful use of ZEISS systems and applications.
• Respond to customer software/applications questions and prepare accurate performance reports.

Average annual travel is up to 50% domestically.What’s the role?Field Applications Engineers assist our customers and our Zeiss sales team with pre-sales activities such as product demonstration and sales support, as well as post-sales activities such as helping customers with understanding and applying our hardware and software systems. This support is provided in a variety of ways, including product demonstration, formal and custom training classes, telephone and on-site support, programming and measurement services. This important consultative role requires professional conduct and customer orientation at all times.Sound Interesting?Here’s what you’ll do:Provide technical consultation to field sales personnel and the HandsOnMetrology (HOM dealer network) in matters relating to advanced applications and systems.Facilitate the flow and accuracy of technical information to the field sales force.Maintain a focus on advanced applications and new Zeiss technology.Support the introduction of new products into the North American Market.Provide technical training programs to the field sales personnel and HOM dealer network.Plan, prepare, and perform high quality customer demonstrations, both in-house and in the field as needed.Provide technical after-sales support for customers to help insure successful use of ZEISS systems.Provide customer training as needed to supplement the Applications Engineering staff.Respond to all customer related software/applications support questions.Respond to any Carl Zeiss Industrial Quality Solutions department requiring software/applications support.Aid with software & system testing in support of product development.File accurate software performance reports.Provide technical after-sales support for customers to help ensure successful use of our systemsProvide applications expertise for necessary project-related activitiesRespond to customer requests for quotation which typically includes analyzing inspection requirements and quoting part programming costs.Estimate anticipated Gage R&R results.On-site implementation of quoted application items.The ability to understand and support IT related issuesWindows Operating System knowledge.The ability to understand Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts.The ability to understand Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).Other duties as required.Do you qualify?A four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics is required.
