Job summary

ZEISS is seeking a Field Applications Engineer to support pre-sale demonstrations and post-sale application guidance for customers in North America. You will partner with the sales team to showcase hardware and software systems, deliver training, and help customers apply advanced Zeiss technology.

The role requires a 4-year engineering-related degree, 2–3 years of experience, and strong communication skills. Travel up to 50% is expected; hybrid work with in-office days is typical.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics required; equivalent work experience considered.
• 2–3 years of professional work experience.
• Able to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of 3D mathematics and programming in modern scientific languages.
• Excellent verbal communication and ability to present technical information.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical consultation to field sales and HOM dealer network on advanced applications and systems.
• Facilitate accurate technical information flow to the field sales force.
• Support introduction of new Zeiss products into the North American market.
• Deliver technical training and customer demonstrations in-house and on-site.

Location/Region:

This position is located in our offices in Huntersville, NC or Wixom, MI living within a commutable distance to either location. Hybrid work when not traveling, 3 days in office and 2 days remote.Average annual travel is up to 50% domestically.

What's the role?

Field Applications Engineers assist our customers and our Zeiss sales team with pre-sales activities such as product demonstration and sales support, as well as post-sales activities such as helping customers with understanding and applying our hardware and software systems. This support is provided in a variety of ways, including product demonstration, formal and custom training classes, telephone and on-site support, programming and measurement services. This important consultative role requires professional conduct and customer orientation at all times.

Here's what you'll do:

• Provide technical consultation to field sales personnel and the HandsOnMetrology (HOM dealer network) in matters relating to advanced applications and systems.
• Facilitate the flow and accuracy of technical information to the field sales force.
• Maintain a focus on advanced applications and new Zeiss technology.
• Support the introduction of new products into the North American Market.
• Provide technical training programs to the field sales personnel and HOM dealer network.
• Plan, prepare, and perform high quality customer demonstrations, both in-house and in the field as needed.
• Provide technical after-sales support for customers to help insure successful use of ZEISSsystems.
• Provide customer training as needed to supplement the Applications Engineering staff.
• Respond to all customer related software/applications support questions.
• Respond to any Carl Zeiss Industrial Quality Solutions department requiring software/applications support.
• Aid with software & system testing in support of product development.
• File accurate software performance reports.
• Provide technical after-sales support for customers to help ensure successful use of our systems
• Provide applications expertise for necessary project-related activities
• Respond to customer requests for quotation which typically includes analyzing inspection requirements and quoting part programming costs.
• Estimate anticipated Gage R&R results.
• On-site implementation of quoted application items.
• The ability to understand and support IT related issues
• Windows Operating System knowledge.
• The ability to understand Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts.
• The ability to understand Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Other duties as required.

Do you qualify?

• A four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics is required. Equivalent work-related experience may be considered.
• 2-3 years of professional work experience.
• Able to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Understanding of 3D mathematics and computer programming techniques in any of the modern scientific computer languages.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and comfortable presenting technical information to small or large audiences.
• Self-starter, comfortable working independently.

Working Environment:

• Ability to write clear and concise technical reports.
• Ability to perform in a Teacher/Trainer related capacity as necessary during product demonstrations or customer training classes and relate the benefits of our products to problem solutions for customers.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently from problem statement to solution.
• Ability to learn independently to find solutions to potential customer measurement problems
• Willing to travel approximately 50% of the time. Must be a team player across the organization.
• Ability to lift 50lbs from floor to table height.
• Possession of a valid driver's license
