Job summary

MasTec Communications Group seeks a Fiber Splicer Trainee to support outdoor utility construction across the Charlotte, NC area. You’ll train with seasoned technicians to gain hands-on expertise in fiber types, splicing, and testing.

Responsibilities include testing and troubleshooting fiber optic networks, operating fusion splicer and OTDR equipment, and preparing splice enclosures. A safety-first mindset and flexibility for shifts are essential.

Responsibilities

• Testing and troubleshooting fiber optic network continuity.
• Operate testing equipment and resolve common fiber network challenges.
• Experience preparing fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, CommScope, Corning, etc.).
• Use fusion splicer and test equipment including OTDR, DWDM, CWDM, OLTS, Power meter.
• Fiber design knowledge, reading documentation, understanding light levels and dB loss.
• Work outdoors at utility construction sites.
