Job summary

Future, a Primoris Company, is seeking a fiber splicing technician to perform fusion splicing, cable preparation, and live fiber cut-overs across outdoor plant and inside plant work. The role requires reading splice maps and documenting work, plus the ability to operate fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and VFLs.

Candidates should have 1–3 years of fiber splicing experience, be able to lift up to 75 lbs, work day/night shifts, and be willing to travel or standby as needed.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of fiber splicing and testing.
• Experience with fusion machines, OTDRs, power meters and related tools.
• Organized with strong attention to detail.
• Able to work independently or in a team with professional communication.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Willing to standby 7 days / 24 hours as needed.
• Able to work long hours and after-hours if required.
• Capable of climbing ladders and operating a bucket truck.
• Willing to work in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Perform fusion splicing and testing on fiber cables.
• Prepare, dress, and store fiber optic cabling per specs.
• Read and update splice documentation and maps.
• Perform live fiber cut-overs during maintenance hours and troubleshoot damage.

Job description

Job Overview

Responsibilities: Fusion splice SM or MM outside plant loose tube, inside plant tight buffered, and ribbon fiber optic cable Prep, dress, and store fiber optic cabling to specifications and assemble equipment according to design specifications Preparation of armored and non-armored cables, ribbon and loose tube fiber and mid-sheath applications Perform live fiber cut-overs during maintenance hours Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter OTDR, VFL and Traffic Identifier Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required Perform other duties as required

Skills and Qualifications

• 1-3 years of fiber splicing and testing
• Working knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of fusion machines, OTDRs, power meters and tools of the trade
• Organized, with a strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment & communicate professionally with co-workers and customers
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Requires a mixture of day and night work.
• Must have a Valid driver’s license
• Be available for 7 day / 24-hour stand by on-call rotation as needed
• Ability and willingness to work long and unpredictable hours if required, including work after normal business hours in the event physical restoration of fiber plant is needed
• Ability to climb up and down ladders and operate a bucket truck is needed
• Willingness to operate within a schedule that is subject to inclement weather conditions
