Expanse Electrical Co. is seeking an entry‑level Fiber Optic Technician Apprentice to assist with fiber installation, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting under experienced technicians.

The role emphasizes hands‑on training, safety, and proper documentation in both aerial and underground environments. You will participate in learning proper fusion/mechanical splicing, material preparation, and review of construction plans.

Qualifications

• No prior fiber optic splicing experience required; willingness to learn fiber optic installation, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Basic safety and regulatory requirements compliance.
• Read and interpret construction plans, maps, and technical documentation.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and follow written instructions.
• Read and document fiber optic test results and reports.

Responsibilities

• Assist experienced technicians with preparing and splicing SM/MM fiber in indoor and outdoor environments.
• Learn fusion and mechanical splicing techniques under supervision.
• Prepare fiber splice cases including grounding and sealing.
• Assist with fiber testing and troubleshooting using OTDRs and meters.
• Maintain production sheets, field reports, and project documentation.
• Travel to project locations as required.
• Participate in safety meetings and apprenticeship development activities.
