Job summary

Corning’s Optical Communications division seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop fiber optic hardware from concept to manufacturing. You will own design activities, apply Creo Parametric for parts and assemblies, and collaborate with manufacturing, prototyping, and customers to ensure robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions.

You will participate in FEA, tolerance development, DFM, and system-level integration while contributing to documented design records in Windchill.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering.
• 2+ years in product development or mechanical design.
• 1+ year with CAD software, preferably Creo Parametric.
• 1+ year designing sheet metal and plastic molded parts.
• Understanding manufacturability, tolerances, and engineering documentation practices.
• Familiarity with Windchill or similar PLM systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop fiber optic hardware components and assemblies in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
• Use CAD (Creo) to create parts and assemblies involving sheet metal and plastic molded components.
• Apply engineering principles including root cause analysis and FEA to support design, tolerance development, and cost reduction.
• Contribute to a systems-level product development approach within an integrated architecture.
• Maintain design records and documentation using Windchill or similar systems.
• Support prototype builds, design reviews, testing, and design improvements from feedback.
