Job summary

AFL is seeking a Fiber Optic Process Technician to support R&D lab activities, prototype builds, and process development. The role involves setting up equipment, running trials, and documenting results to drive continual improvements.

You will work with R&D engineers to troubleshoot issues, optimize throughput and quality, and maintain lab readiness while adhering to safety and documentation standards. A hybrid in-office schedule is offered for qualifying employees.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate preferred.
  • 2+ years in manufacturing, process support, or engineering technician roles.
  • Fiber termination, splicing, or test experience highly valued.
  • Ability to follow work instructions, safety procedures, and engineering direction.
  • Strong documentation and data recording practices.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and support prototype builds, process trials, tooling evaluations, and development work.
  • Operate fiber optic termination equipment, splicers, and lab equipment per instructions.
  • Build, inspect, and document samples for engineering evaluation and testing.
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers to troubleshoot and improve process performance.
  • Record process data and observations clearly and promptly.
  • Assist with fixture/setup changes and lab readiness for development work.
  • Help create and maintain work instructions and training materials.
  • Maintain a clean, safe lab and comply with AFL policies.
  • Communicate barriers and equipment issues to the R&D Lab Manager or engineers.
  • Perform other fiber optic lab and process development duties as assigned.
