Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College seeks a hands-on, industry-experienced Skills Training Instructor to launch and deliver an eight-week program in fiber optic installation and network cabling across Bloomington, Fort Wayne, and Valparaiso campuses.

The instructor leads lab-based instruction, prepares students for industry certification exams, manages cohorts, maintains the training lab, and coordinates the culminating employer fair, serving as the program's campus lead for delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years verifiable field experience in low-voltage cabling or fiber optic installation (BICSI prep preferred).
• Equivalent one year with completed formal apprenticeship.
• Experience teaching technical hands-on content to adult learners.
• Ability to manage a lab-based learning environment and pace instruction.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple cohorts.
• Clear written and verbal communication with campus leadership and employers.
• Combination of technical education, industry certification, and field experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver all phases of the eight-week curriculum on campus, including boot camp orientation, fiber optic training, and network cabling training.
• Lead hands-on, lab-based instruction and manage day-to-day cohort pacing and student engagement.
• Prepare students for fiber optic installer certification and network cable installation exams.
• Coordinate certification testing and testing logistics for on-site or off-site exams.
• Build and maintain course content in Canvas and manage lab readiness.
