Job summary

TDS Telecom seeks a Network Specialist - Outside Plant Construction to lead coordination and supervision of OSP field construction across multiple sites. You will work with engineers, contractors and city agencies to ensure projects meet budgets and schedules while complying with NESC standards.

The role requires travel to construction sites and strong leadership, communication, and project management skills to deliver fiber network infrastructure for communities served by TDS.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree (or higher) -OR- 2+ years professional work experience.
• 2+ years experience in Voice, Data, or Video networking.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and insurance.
• Ability to travel to construction sites approximately three days per week.
• Experience in OSP Construction and/or Engineering (fiber or copper or coax) - OR - related Utility/Municipal Construction and/or Engineering - OR - Construction Project Management.
• Fiber optic implementation experience.
• Excellent leadership, customer relations and communications skills.
• Self‑directed and ability to work independently.
• Understanding of Telecommunications industry and principals.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Project Management experience.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills.
• PC database, spreadsheet, and word processing skills.
• Working knowledge of NESC construction practices and engineering standards.
• Ability to read and understand FTTH construction prints.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate OSP projects and supervise consultants responsible for field construction and splicing.
• Provide audits of OSP projects and coach consultants to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Review field reports and contractor invoicing; manage project progress and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with Sarbanes‑Oxley guidelines and collaborate with Network Operations, Planning, Rights‑of‑Way, and Contracts.
• Assist in engineering phases; prepare labor, material, and overhead cost estimates.
• Adapt to GIS-based tracking methods and changing construction technologies.
