Job summary

Waterloo Fiber is seeking a Field Services Technician Level I to install, activate, test, and support broadband service at homes and businesses in Waterloo. You will handle customer-premises installation from the exterior NID into the interior, including ONT setup, routing, and basic education on service use.

The role requires professional communication, safe workmanship, and the ability to complete installations with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Iowa driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to use computers, mobile devices, ticketing systems, email, and basic productivity software.
• Ability to distinguish colors used in fiber, cabling, labeling, and status indicators.
• Ability to pass required pre-employment screening.
• Availability for scheduled on-call, emergency call-out, overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Review work orders and materials, confirm access and equipment.
• Install fiber from exterior NID into premises following standards.
• Mount and activate Calix ONTs and related power supplies.
• Verify optical levels and service activation using test equipment; troubleshoot issues.
• Install customer‑premises Ethernet/Wi‑Fi and verify connectivity.
• Document all materials, labor, and test results in work orders.
