UNDERWAY FIBERAXIS LLC is seeking a skilled Directional Drill Operator to join our fiber construction team in the Fort Myers/ Clearwater area. You will operate HDD equipment to install underground fiber optic cable, read bore plans, and coordinate with ground crews in a fast-paced, outdoor setting.

Ideal candidates have HDD experience in telecom or utility construction, a valid driver's license (CDL preferred), and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating HDD equipment in fiber, telecom, or utility construction.
• Ability to read and interpret underground utility maps and bore plans.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.
• Strong understanding of safe digging practices and utility avoidance procedures.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment for underground fiber optic cable installation
• Plan and execute bore paths while avoiding existing underground utilities
• Perform pre-operation inspections, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting on drill rigs
• Coordinate with locating crews and ground personnel to ensure safe drilling operations
• Read and interpret construction drawings, bore plans, and site maps
• Maintain accurate daily logs of drilling activity, footage, and equipment status
• Adhere to all OSHA safety standards and company safety protocols on job sites
