Job summary

Astrix, located in Minneapolis, MN, seeks an R&D Technician to support research and development activities with scientists. You will perform pilot-scale trials in a food-grade lab, conduct routine analyses, report results, and maintain pilot plant equipment as part of a one-year contract.

The role requires a B.S. in a related science, fermentation experience, and hands-on microbiology skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to work on 1st shift.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science, or related field.
• Experience in fermentations and fermentation biology.
• 6 months to 3 years in a food manufacturing facility.
• Hands-on microbiology sampling, sterile technique, and fermentation principles.
• Experience with downstream purification technologies.
• Ability to execute designed experiments, troubleshoot, and make corrections during experimentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to research scientists in completing projects and activities.
• Conduct pilot fermentation trials and routine experiments.
• Perform microbiological plating and routine analysis as needed.
• Organize, document, and communicate experimental results.
• Execute designed experiments and troubleshoot issues during experimentation.
• Make corrections during experimentation as needed.
• Maintain pilot plant and laboratory equipment.
• Ensure equipment is properly maintained and operational.
• Follow corporate EHS and Food Safety requirements and procedures.
• Support research initiatives related to core technology components and food/product lines.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
