Job summary

Manus is seeking a Fermentation Engineer to join our process development team in Augusta, GA. You will lead lab operations and advance fermentation science to bring new bioprocesses from bench to pilot scale, focusing on yield, productivity, and process robustness.

This hands-on role requires working across disciplines, strong data analysis, aseptic technique, and the ability to design experiment plans. A PhD or MS with relevant experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with substantial experience in fermentation science or related field.
• Expertise in bench and pilot-scale fermentation process development.
• Expertise in microbial physiology.
• Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with analytical instrumentation (GC, LC).
• Scale-up experience from lab-scale to pilot plant or production-scale.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development of experimental plans.
• Set up, operate, and monitor lab- and pilot-scale bioreactors (1–4000 L).
• Prepare media, inoculum, and sterile systems using aseptic techniques.
• Execute fermentation runs following SOPs and experimental plans.
• Troubleshoot basic process deviations.
