Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks an experienced attorney for the Office of Chief Counsel to provide guidance on real property acquisitions, title review, and conveyancing matters.

The role involves drafting deeds and agreements, supporting the DOJ as agency counsel in civil actions, conducting legal research, and delivering training on title review and land acquisition within CBP.

Responsibilities

• Providing legal guidance to CBP in a wide variety of matters, including real property issues and detailed title review for CBP-funded land acquisitions.
• Drafting and revising land conveyancing instruments such as deeds, sales and exchange agreements, assignments, and subordination documents to comply with regulations and CBP goals.
• Supporting the Department of Justice as agency counsel in civil actions (e.g., FOIA, FTCA) by preparing litigation materials, affidavits, pleadings, and participating in eDiscovery and mediation.
• Performing legal research and applying laws across CBP portfolios, including title review, federal land acquisition, and fiscal and appropriation laws.
• Developing and delivering legal training to CBP managers and employees on title review, federal land acquisition, and related fiscal processes.
