Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools seeks a Federal Program/Special Education Coordinator to leverage federal funding for enhancing district programs, facilities, and personnel. The role reports to the Superintendent and leads program development for students with disabilities.

The ideal candidate will manage budgets, evaluate proposals, and ensure compliance with ALSDE requirements while guiding the district’s gifted and special education initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Valid Alabama State Department of Education certification in instructional leadership/administration.
  • Experience or aptitude for planning and budgeting project proposals and for clear writing.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate designated personnel, manage budgets, and develop curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts in-service education workshops in the writing of performance objectives, the drafting of project proposals, and the interpretation of specifications for federal funding.
  • Evaluates projects proposed by staff for relevance to the district’s plan and needs, and eligibility for federal funding.
  • Assumes final responsibility for writing all proposals and filing all applications for federal funds.
  • Evaluates all federally funded projects in operation on a regular basis.
  • Disseminates project information to staff and the public at large as appropriate.
  • Remains up to date on changing laws and requirements regarding federal funds available to the schools.
  • Prepares annual report concerning the district’s involvement with federally funded projects for the superintendent.
  • Prepares and maintains budget for system’s allotted federal funds.
  • Provides leadership in developing and promoting the mission and vision of exceptional education services.
  • Disseminates information about laws, research, and trends in special education to teachers, principals, and stakeholders.
  • Provides advice on application and interpretation of exceptional educational laws, policies and procedures.
  • Directs processes for mandated timeline compliance, reporting, and record management, including data entry and submission for ALSDE database programs.
  • Coordinates 504 Plans and Homebound services according to federal law and board policy.
  • Assists with program evaluations, operations, management, and strategic planning for system’s gifted student education program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Superintendent.
