Duties

During their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out protection assignments, including:

• Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
• Traveling in support of Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
• Enforcing protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
• Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time of receiving a conditional offer of employment, unless you have prior federal law enforcement service or are covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment before reaching age 40 to continue the process.
• Carry and use a firearm; maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
• Have uncorrected visual acuity no worse than 20/100 binocular, and corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
• Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges, as measured by an audiometer. Applicants must be able to hear whispered voice at 15 feet without hearing aids.
• Submit to a drug test prior to appointment and undergo random drug testing during employment.
• Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, or Artesia, NM, and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
• Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt if male and born after December 31, 1959.
