Job summary

ASM Research is seeking a Technical Writer to develop, edit, and maintain clear, user-focused documentation supporting enterprise IT operations in a federally regulated environment. You will collaborate with engineers, ITSM leaders, and ITIL practitioners to translate complex information into accessible content, covering the full lifecycle from drafting to governance and publication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, IT, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 0–3 years of progressively responsible experience in technical writing or related roles.
• Able to understand and communicate complex technical information clearly for varied audiences.
• Experience with documentation tools (word processing, PDF, help-authoring/publishing).
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading with attention to detail and version control.
• Able to work independently and with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced IT environment.
• Active or obtainable SECRET clearance and U.S. citizenship, with <10% travel.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex technical and security information into clear user guides, SOPs, workflows, and reference materials for varied audiences.
• Gather, analyze, and validate information by interviewing engineers, analysts, and ITSM leaders; review specifications and observe workflows.
• Apply structured writing principles, templates, and style guides to create cohesive content across manuals, knowledge articles, and training materials.
• Use publishing tools to produce content in web, printable, and training formats.
• Apply plain-language, accessibility, and federal guidelines to improve clarity and compliance.
• Coordinate reviews, track comments, and maintain version control with auditable change history.
• Collaborate with agile and DevOps teams to update documentation with system releases and changes.
• Support documentation for enterprise IT services (cloud, cybersecurity, ITSM) relevant to Federal Client operations.
• Align documentation with ITIL-based service management practices and governance.
