Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) to join a large federal law enforcement workforce.

The BPA role is part of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession, with full-time, entry- and mid-level career opportunities and strong federal benefits. Duties include detecting and questioning people suspected of immigration and customs violations, inspecting documents, and patrolling borders and coastal waterways using diverse assets.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience OR education substitution as described for GL-5.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree.
• Combination of general work experience AND successfully completed college education may qualify forGL-5/GL-7/GS-11 levels.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks and patrols.
• Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using various assets.
