Job summary

The University of Georgia is seeking a Fayette County 4-H Program Assistant (PT) to support in-school and after-school youth programming. You will deliver prepared curriculum, lead junior and senior 4-H activities, and help coordinate events, transportation, and community service projects.

Fayette County 4-H Program Assistant (PT)

Position Summary

This position conducts 5th-8th grade 4-H educational program in‑classroom meetings, 9th-12th grade meetings, and a monthly senior 4-H meeting. It will also help 4-Hers with project achievement and be responsible for weekend events and community service projects. This is a fast‑paced position and activities each day will vary week to week and month to month. Indoor and outdoor activities are expected in this role.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies
  • Proficient in typing, filing, computer skills such as Windows and Microsoft Office, social media, leading youth programs in different environments, and use of a smartphone.
  • Strong organizational and soft skills, working knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion with confidential information.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Critical thinking skills, initiative, mastery of content, time management, and attention to detail.
Physical Demands
  • Pack and move boxes, handle equipment, load and unload vehicles, outdoor garden work, leading classrooms, setting up rooms for program delivery, etc.
  • Travel to Extension events and provide transportation to these events for youth or adult participants using county vehicles such as a 10‑passenger van or minibus.
  • Sit at a desk or stand in a classroom setting for extended periods of time.
  • Driving, walking, running, bending, stooping, stairs, uneven ground.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct in‑school club meetings and deliver prepared curriculum that meets state (Georgia Professional Standards) guidelines.
  • Plan ahead and cooperate with staff members to coordinate programs.
  • Assist 4-Hers in preparation for 4-H competitive events, including project achievement, judging teams, etc.
  • Transport or arrange for transportation of 4-Hers to various district and state‑level events, and if assigned, provide leadership for youth while attending these events.
  • Incorporate the results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques used in implementing programs.
  • Develop school break activities for all youth ages.
  • Coordinate event details, budget, travel with youth, and coordinate with staff about activities, etc.
  • Use local mass media to publicize 4-H events and accomplishments.
  • Use county website and internet media to increase 4-H program outreach.
  • Make reports to appropriate clientele and public officials through media, personal contacts, and/or group meetings to provide information on progress of 4-H programs and coordinate reporting with other county staff members.
  • Submit accurate, complete reports on time in Georgia Counts, 4-H Enrollment, and to District and State 4-H office as required, and provide supplemental documentation useful in evaluating and improving educational programs as needed.
  • Cooperate with other staff in preparing joint reports.
  • Identify, recruit, train, involve, and recognize volunteers in planning, teaching, and evaluating Extension 4-H programs, and assist interested volunteers in the successful completion of the 4-H Chaperone Training.
  • Recruit 9‑ to 18‑year‑old students to become involved in 4-H educational programs.
