Pay Range

This range is provided by Sports and Arts in Schools Foundation. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Base pay range: $20.00/hr - $25.00/hr

New York Edge is the largest provider of after-school and summer camp programs in New York City public schools, serving 40,000 students annually in academics, arts, sports, wellness, and college access programs.

Summary

We are seeking passionate and enthusiastic individuals for the role of Fashion Design Specialist. Responsibilities include organizing, leading, and promoting interest in fashion arts activities, utilizing and adapting the New York State Arts Learning Standards to create engaging activities that encourage participation.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
  2. Organize, lead, and promote interest in fashion design, sewing, garment knowledge, and illustration activities.
  3. Organize performance groups and direct rehearsals.
  4. Set clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate them to students.
  5. Assess group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet student needs.
  6. Prepare materials and classrooms for activities.
  7. Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures; demonstrate the use of materials and equipment.
  8. Evaluate activities to ensure desired results.
  9. Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students' needs.
  10. Facilitate progressive development of student skills leading to a final project.
Required Skills
  1. Knowledge and skills in fashion design, sewing, art, illustration, and garment-making techniques, equipment, and terminology.
  2. Prior experience teaching youth preferred.
  3. Ability to follow a curriculum.
  4. Responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Physical ability to walk stairs and lift/move objects as needed.
  7. Work primarily within NYC public schools, with community interactions during trips or events.
Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent; some college preferred.
  2. At least one year of relevant work experience.
  3. At least one year of teaching/coaching experience.
  4. Passion for education and youth development.
  5. Additional activity leadership skills are a plus.
Work Schedule
  • 9-15 hours per week.
  • Monday to Friday, 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm.

The role requires reporting to schools, interacting with staff, students, parents, and school administration, and obtaining necessary safety and security clearances.
