Job summary

H2ajobs in Iowa is seeking a farmworker to assist with cattle care, bedding, feeding and herding. Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, repairing fences and assisting calving, with potential medications or vaccines as needed.

The role may include long hours during weekends/holidays, with housing and meals provided by the employer and optional transport support. Prior livestock experience is preferred, minimum 2 months required.

• Experience with livestock handling (2 months minimum).
• Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs and work in variable weather.
• Must be 18 years or older and legally eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Attend to cattle: bedding, feeding, watering, herding, grazing, branding, catching and loading.
• Inspect and maintain feeding and manure equipment, repair livestock facilities, buildings, pens, yards and fences.
• Maintain cattle records, examine cattle for diseases or injuries, assist calving, administer medications or insecticides as appropriate.
• May work with meals provided or housing accommodations as described by the employer.

Job description

Duties may include: Attend to cattle. Duties may include bedding, feeding, watering, herding, grazing, branding, catching and loading cattle. Scraping and hauling manure and hauling feed. Inspect, maintain feeding and manure equipment, repair livestock facilities, buildings, pens, yards and fences. May maintain records on cattle; examine cattle to detect diseases or injuries; assist in calving; administer medications, vaccinations or insecticides as appropriate. One hour lunch break per day. Time and a half offered on Sundays and holidays. & other related Farmworker, Farm and Ranch Animals activities as per SOC/OES 45-2093 (onetonline.org).

Possible weekend/holiday work.

The employer may choose to pay experienced workers, regardless of origin, more than the published minimum wage rate. See attached Addendum C.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: Depending on housing location, worker may have a kitchen available for use. In that case, The employer will furnish cooking facilities, utilities, and utensils for workers to prepare their own meals in the housing provided kitchen. Included basic appliances will consist of, but is not limited to, refrigerator, stove/oven, and sink with hot and cold-water connections. All appliances included will be in good, working condition for the workers. Employer will provide transportation to grocery store at least once a week for workers who wish to shop for food. Otherwise, 3 meals per day will be provided to those workers who do not have access to free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities (all workers who are residing in public accommodations). All meals will include a daily source of protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Transport: The employer will provide or pay for charter bus services or other modes of transportation to H-2A or U.S. workers, or permit workers to select any means of transportation they choose and reimburse workers at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved in traveling (a) to the place of employment from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer (i.e., inbound) and (b) from the pl... Must be 18 years of age. Worker has 3 days from date of hire to show proof of legal authorization to work in the United States. Drug/alcohol/tobacco free work zone. Static strength; exert max muscle force to lift, push, pull, unload, carry objects up to 80lbs (possible 2-person); may climb, walk, stand, reach, balance, sit, stoop, bend, squat, wash, clean: equip, grounds, area.
