Coastal States District is inviting aspiring entrepreneurs to join as Farmers agency owners across Virginia and Maryland. You can launch a new agency, acquire an existing one, or learn the business hands-on through the Protégé Program.

You'll build and protect a diversified book, lead a local team, and become a trusted advisor in your community. We provide training via University of Farmers, ongoing mentorship, and the backing of a nationally recognized brand, with a clear ownership pathway and

About the opportunity

Coastal States District is building a team of Farmers® agency owners across Virginia and Maryland. Whether you’re ready to launch your own agency, buy an established one, or learn the business first, there’s a path built for where you’re starting. Our district team supports you from your first conversation to your grand opening.

Choose your path

Retail Agency Owner: build new
Start your own Farmers agency from the ground up. You’ll choose your location, hire your team, and grow your book of business, with hands-on district support through your first year.

Agency Acquisition: buy established
Purchase an existing Farmers agency with an established customer base and put your business experience to work from day one, with transition support from our team.

Protégé Program: earn and learn
Work inside an established Farmers agency, learn sales, service, and operations hands on, and build the skills to own your agency one day.

What we’re looking for

• Sales, business ownership, or leadership experience (customer-facing experience for Protégé)
• Active Property & Casualty and Life & Health licenses, or the ability to obtain them
• Ability to pass a background check
• Ability to meet Farmers’ capital requirements for ownership paths (details shared during screening)
• Self-motivated, open to feedback, and driven to build something lasting

Compensation

Estimated annual earnings: $50,000 to $250,000+

• Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong desire to own and operate a business.
• Experience in sales, management, customer service, or business development preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to develop and execute a business growth strategy.
• Willingness to obtain required Property & Casualty and Life & Health insurance licenses.
• Ability to meet applicable background check and Farmers Insurance appointment requirements.
• Financial readiness to meet the requirements of the selected agency ownership pathway.
