Job summary

Shepherd University’s Agricultural Innovation Center seeks a Vegetable Production Assistant (VPA) to support Tabler Student Farm in all vegetable production activities throughout the academic year. VPA will assist with field prep, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing/packing, and weeding, and will be trained to use farm tools.

There may be opportunities to work at local farmers markets on weekends. This is a Federal Work Study position, with seasonal August–mid-November and

Qualifications

• Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at Shepherd University.
• Degree-seeking student.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Seeding, transplanting, harvesting, processing, and record keeping of crops.
• Maintaining production plots by pruning, weeding, watering, bed preparation, and mulching.
• Office work such as entering data, event coordinating, and communications (social media, emailing, etc.).
• Ability to be a team leader and help give direction to volunteers and/or students.
