Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture is seeking a Farm Manager to oversee state-owned farms using established farming practices and new technology. You will supervise farm workers, inmate labor, and mechanics, and manage cattle, hay, and crops to maximize productivity and efficiency.

The role reports to the Assistant Commissioner, requires a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and at least five years of full-time experience managing a large farming operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related field required.
• Five years of full-time paid employment in managing or assisting in management of a large, multi-faceted farming operation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise farm workers and staff involved in farming operations.
• Oversee routine operation of machinery, animal management, and herbicide usage.
• Plan and perform farming tasks including fertilizing, planting, harvesting, and storage.
• Train staff in farming techniques and procedures.
• Monitor farm operations to optimize productivity and efficiency.
• Prepare financial and progress reports on farming operations.
• Review and approve timecards and leave requests in the timekeeping system.
