Job summary

West Virginia Department of Agriculture in Henderson, WV is seeking a Farm Worker I - TEMPORARY to perform routine manual farm labor and assist with livestock and crop duties at a state facility.

Under supervision of the Farm Manager, you will feed, water, and care for livestock; plant and harvest crops; operate basic farm equipment; and help maintain buildings and surroundings. Temporary status limits hours and benefits.

Qualifications

• Education: completion of an eighth-grade education; high school or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: two years in a farming operation or equivalent.
• Substitutions: vocational agriculture training may substitute year-for-year.

Responsibilities

• Grind and mix feed for livestock as instructed.
• Salt, feed, water and bed livestock by hand or equipment.
• Clean barns, livestock quarters and buildings.
• Operate tractors, loaders and other farm equipment as needed.
• Plant and harvest crops by hand or with machines.
• Load/unload trucks with produce, seed, fertilizer, or feed.
• Apply agricultural sprays for weeds and pests.
• Repair fences, buildings and equipment as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
