Job summary

Conner Prairie is seeking an Agriculture Operations Assistant to support the full-time Agriculture Staff in caring for a working farm and livestock herds. You will work independently and with the team, performing routine livestock care using low-stress handling methods.

This role includes feeding, monitoring health, assisting with veterinary tasks, and participating in biosecurity and staff trainings. It also involves engaging with the public through interpretive programs as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous agriculture experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to follow safety and biosecurity protocols.

Responsibilities

• Handles livestock with low-stress handling methods and follows protocols.
• Feeds, waters, and monitors health of cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, poultry, rabbits, and cats.
• Assists with routine veterinary/maintenance tasks (hoof trimming, vaccinating, weighing, milking, shearing).
• Monitors bred animals for signs of labor and provides pre- and post-natal care.
• Operates and maintains farm equipment; assists with fence and barn upkeep.
• Engages with the public through interpretive agriculture programs when needed.
