Job summary

Conner Prairie Museum in Fishers, IN is seeking a part-time Agriculture Operations Assistant to support routine care and maintenance of the farm and livestock using low-stress handling methods. This role works with the Agriculture Staff and may engage with interpretive programs for guests.

Responsibilities include feeding and monitoring cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, poultry, and other animals; assisting with veterinary and maintenance tasks; helping with pasture care, fencing, and barn upkeep; and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; three months related experience or training acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Handles livestock according to low-stress handling protocol.
• Feeds, waters, and monitors health of cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, poultry, rabbits, cats as instructed by Livestock Manager.
• Assists with routine veterinary/maintenance work (hoof trimming, vaccinating, weighing, medicating, milking, shearing, breeding).
• Monitors bred animals for labor; provides pre- and post-natal care.
• Cleans barns, pens, stalls, feeders, water tanks; maintains pasture and fences.
• Operates farm machinery safely; participates in trainings and staff meetings.
• Engages with the public through interpretive programs as needed.
• Works with Agriculture Staff on routine tasks and seasonal duties.
