Umbel Roots is seeking a Farmhand for year-round work in our organic & Biodynamic farm in south Petaluma, CA. The role supports seeding, weeding, planting, and harvesting with training on our farming methods.

Expect Monday–Friday, eight hours per day, with a focus on learning and contributing from your own experience. You will work closely with the head farmer, handle irrigation-related tasks, greenhouse and field duties, and help maintain high-quality crops and produce for our CSA,

• Ability to lift, bend, stoop, work in all seasons throughout the year.

Umbel Roots: A south Petaluma Certified Organic (CCOF) and Biodynamic (Demeter) that specializes in growing tasteful vegetables, flowers, and herbs for Michelin Stared restaurants. CSA, Direct to restaurants and farmers markets are all our outlets for sales. This farm was created in December 2023 and continues to be positively developed to something great. Our mission is to bring delicious vegetables to our local community.

Job description

This position plays an important role in the daily task list at this Organic & Biodynamic farm in Petaluma. As a farmhand you could be seeding, weeding, planting, harvesting are just a couple tasks you'd be asked to do. We take gentle steps in training how we need tasks accomplished. Looking for a candidate that enjoys learning our way to farming and wants to give there input from their own experience (we don't know it all)! This is Monday-Friday for eight hours per day.

General Job tasks

• Greenhouse planting, seeding, up potting and watering.
• Field planting, watering and assuring the plants are looking great.
• Checking in with head farmer, gathering tasks and accomplishing list.
• Fixing sprinklers, glueing PVC, installing irrigation, other irrigation tasks.
• Cleaning, washing, spraying water and using a pressurization washer.
• Harvesting, bunching, flower harvest, herb gathering and general wash station.
• Following SOP's developed by the farm manager are highly regarded at this farm. This is both a doing and learning farm.

Hourly compensation is between $18-$24 Your hourly range is purely driven by your experience, workmanship and ability to be present.

There is NO housing or pets allowed on property- you'll have to have your own housing and leave the beautiful pets at home.
