Job description

Be the difference in a child's everyday life.

We're looking for compassionate, committed and child-focused Family Support Workers to join our Children with Disabilities Service.

This is a role for people who want to do meaningful, hands-on work, building relationships, supporting families through challenges, and helping children with disabilities live fuller, more independent lives.

If you are someone who sees the child first, not the diagnosis, and believes every child deserves the chance to thrive, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Family Support Worker, you will work directly with children and young people with a wide range of additional needs, alongside their families, to deliver practical, tailored support that makes a real difference.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children, young people and their families
  • Deliver direct, person-centred support that promotes independence and confidence
  • Ensure the child's voice and lived experience remain at the heart of all work
  • Support families to overcome barriers and access the help they need
  • Work as part of a wider team to deliver evidence-based interventions
  • Help children develop social skills, resilience and daily living skills
  • Work closely with partners across health, education and community services to improve outcomes
  • Support carers and families to find sustainable ways of coping, including opportunities for short breaks

This is a relational, hands-on role where you'll see the impact of your work every day - in small steps, big achievements, and meaningful moments.

Who We're Looking For

You'll be someone who:

  • Has experience working with children, young people or families (experience of disability is valuable but not essential)
  • Is passionate about supporting children with additional needs to thrive
  • Can build genuine, trusting relationships with children and families
  • Is patient, empathetic and able to adapt to each child's individual needs
  • Works well as part of a team and alongside partner agencies
  • Is organised, reliable and able to manage a varied workload

Most importantly:
We're looking for people who truly care, people who are kind, curious, and motivated to make a difference in the lives of children with disabilities and their families.

Why Work With Us?

We know the difference our Family Support Workers make - and we're committed to supporting you to do your best work.

You’ll benefit from:

  • A supportive team environment where relationships matter
  • Opportunities to learn, develop and grow your skills
  • A strong focus on reflective practice and continuous development
  • Flexible working arrangements that support work-life balance
  • Generous annual leave and local government pension
  • Staff benefits including discounts, wellbeing support and family-friendly policies
  • Above all, you'll be part of a service that values its staff and is ambitious for children.
Why This Work Matters

Children with disabilities and their families often face additional challenges in day-to-day life and when accessing support.

In this role, you will help ensure that:

  • Children are supported to be themselves and achieve their potential
  • Families feel understood, supported and empowered
  • Barriers are reduced and opportunities are created

This is a role where the work you do genuinely changes lives sometimes in small ways, sometimes in life-changing ways, but always in ways that matter.
