Job summary

Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) seeks a Home Visitor to provide home-based child and family development support to enrolled families in Kodiak. Working within the Parents as Teachers model, you will partner with parents and child care providers to strengthen early learning, promote positive parenting, and connect families with resources.

This role supports school readiness and healthy family outcomes in the community, conducts home visits, leads parent education, and helps with screenings,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and two years of supervised work with young children and/or parents.
• Knowledge of child development and early childhood education preferred.
• Ability to connect families with community resources.

Responsibilities

• Conducts home-based visits with assigned families and engages parents in educational activities.
• Encourages strong family relationships and supports parents' ability to assist child development at home.
• Delivers instruction to parents on behavior management, development, and early learning activities.
• Provides trainings to State of Alaska licensed Child Care Providers and KANA-approved providers.
• Completes program intake forms, assessments, and required documentation.
• Plans and facilitates group connections for families and gathers feedback.

Position Overview

Provides home-based child and family development support services to enrolled families following the Parents as Teachers program model. This role partners with parents and child care providers to strengthen early childhood development, promote positive parenting practices, and connect families with resources that support long-term stability. The position plays a key role in supporting early learning, school readiness, and healthy family outcomes within the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducts home-based visits with assigned families and engages parents in educational activities that strengthen their role as their child's primary teacher
• Encourages strong family relationships and promotes parents' ability to support their child's development in the home
• Provides instruction to parents individually or in groups on behavior management, physical development, language development, and early learning activities
• Delivers trainings to State of Alaska licensed Child Care Providers and KANA-approved providers in both group and individual settings
• Conducts community outreach and recruitment to enroll families in the Cama'i Program
• Administers developmental screenings, health screenings, and family assessments; supports referrals to healthcare, early intervention, and special education services as needed
• Completes program intake forms, assessments, and required documentation in accordance with program standards
• Plans and facilitates group connections for families; gathers participant feedback to strengthen engagement and program effectiveness
• Coaches parents on positive discipline techniques, routines, sleep transitions, nutrition, and developmentally appropriate practices
• Maintains accurate and organized program files and enters all visit and service data into the required online systems
• Prepares and submits reports, monthly program narratives, and other required documentation as assigned

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of supervised work experience with young children and/or parents; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Basic knowledge of child development, early childhood education, and community resources for children and families preferred

Work Schedule

KANA's standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, typically consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (total of 8.5 hours on site per day).
