Job summary

Addus Home Care is seeking a Family Service Specialist to assist families in crisis under DCFS programs, providing coaching and transportation support in home and community settings.

The role focuses on preventing foster placement, facilitating visitation, and preparing progress reports while meeting mandatory trainings and background checks. A high school diploma or GED and a reliable car are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree or 2 years of child welfare experience required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Experience in social work, child care, or working with families preferred.
• Must have a dependable automobile, a valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance.
• Must pass required background checks.

Responsibilities

• Support families to prevent the permanent placement of children out of their home.
• Provide transportation for parent and/or children to and from locations for supervised visitation. Travel can be extensive.
• Work directly with families in the home, teaching homemaking, parenting skills, anger management, and using resources.
• Supervised and unsupervised visitation; observe interactions and redirect if needed.
• Prepare written reports and maintain accurate records; submit progress reports monthly.
• Report all child abuse and neglect; attend mandated trainings.
• For housing programs, locate housing, jobs and supports for living independently.

Education
