Job summary

City of Hampton, Virginia is seeking a Social Services Supervisor to lead a team of Family Services Specialists and Principal Family Services Specialists. The role focuses on supervising staff, ensuring compliance with state and local policies, and guiding program development.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a related field, at least five years of direct social service experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to interpret laws and policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field.
• Minimum five years of direct social service delivery experience including supervision.
• Extensive knowledge of social work principles, supervisory techniques, and community issues.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to interpret laws and policies; strong written communication.
• Background check required; safety sensitive with drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the staff of social service providers; plans, coordinates, assigns, and reviews the work of a group of Family Services Specialists, Senior Family Services Specialists, and Principal Family Services Specialists.
• Maintains compliance with state and local policy and ensures that goals and objectives are met; protects clients from abuse and neglect.
• Provides leadership, direction, and guidance; trains and evaluates staff and develops training programs.
• Initiates personnel actions, including selection, evaluation, promotion, counseling, and discipline; approves leave.
• Interprets laws and policies to staff and the public; evaluates program effectiveness and recommends policy changes.
• Participates in community planning and presents to the public; represents the agency on committees and task forces.
• Maintains filing systems; compiles and analyzes program data and prepares reports.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
