Job summary

YWCA of Hawai'i Island is seeking a compassionate Family Resource Specialist in Hilo to support prenatal families and newborns by providing assessments, referrals, and short-term assistance that strengthens family development.

The role conducts screenings, maintains records, and connects families to community resources while protecting confidentiality and working with hospitals and clinics.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One to three months of related experience or training preferred.
  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License, reliable transportation, clean driving abstract, and ability to pass criminal background and drug screening.
  • TB clearance required; First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and understanding of child development and family dynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct screening and eligibility assessments with prenatal and postnatal families at birthing facilities, clinics, offices, or referred sources.
  • Refer eligible families to community resources and appropriate services.
  • Initiate and maintain participant records, ensuring documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Provide short-term direct assistance, bonding facilitation, and advocacy as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and regular supervision to discuss case progress and collaborate on solutions.
  • Assist with community outreach and training efforts to promote PHO services.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and ensure participant confidentiality at all times.

We are looking for a compassionate and resourceful Family Resource Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will help support prenatal women and families with newborns by providing assessments, referrals, and short-term support that strengthens families during a vital period of development.

Position Overview

The Family Resource Specialist is responsible for conducting screenings and assessments of prenatal and postnatal families, offering referrals and direct short-term assistance, and facilitating access to services and community resources. This role is based in Hilo and works with birthing hospitals, clinics, and other referral sources.
