Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies in Massachusetts invites applications for a Nurse Practitioner at Old Colony Correctional Center in Bridgewater. This full-time (32 hours/week) position focuses on ambulatory care within a correctional setting, collaborating with physicians and a multidisciplinary team to deliver timely medical services to inmates.

You will respond to medical emergencies, manage patient care under physician supervision, educate patients and staff, maintain meticulous documentation,

Qualifications

• NP program graduate from an accredited college/university
• At least 2+ years of experience as an NP
• Current independent licensure and certifications in the state of MA
• Corrections experience desired but not required

Responsibilities

• Responds to medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies health problems and prescribes treatment under physician supervision.
• Implements medical care with physician-approved regimens.
• Educates inmates/patients, staff, and correctional personnel.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Follows safety, security policies and participates in disaster drills; handles keys, sharps, and medications.
• Delegates tasks and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Follows Universal Precautions and infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

Nurse Practitioner Position Summary

The NP utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The NP works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

Nurse Practitioner Essential Functions

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

Nurse Practitioner Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP program
• Has at least 2+ years experience as an NP
• Must possess current independent licensure and certifications in the state of MA
• Experience in corrections desired but not required
