Since 1971, Community Health Services has provided affordable preventive health care to residents of the Roaring Fork Valley, from Aspen to Parachute. We are a nonprofit safety-net clinic and a Title X family planning provider funded through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). We serve many uninsured and Spanish-speaking patients and offer a sliding fee scale so no one is turned away for inability to pay. Our services include women’s health and family planning, breast and cervical cancer screening, prenatal care, immunizations, STI testing and treatment, and oral health.
The Family Planning Program Nurse runs the day-to-day operations of CHS’s family planning (Title X), Women’s Wellness Connection, and STI programs and is the clinic’s lead for Title X compliance. The role combines program administration (operations, supplies, data, reporting, and staff education) with direct patient care. As a registered nurse, you will see family planning and STI patients under standing orders and step into clinical coverage when the clinic needs it.
Oversee daily operations and reporting for the family planning (Title X), Women’s Wellness Connection, and STI programs, working with the Prenatal and Women’s Health Clinical Administrator on breast and cervical screening case management and state reporting systems. Manage inventory and coordinate ordering of supplies, medications, and contraceptives, including communication with the Aspen Valley Health pharmacy and supervising physicians; follow 340B and dispensing procedures. Monitor program data, including patient volume, charting, and results; evaluate outcomes; and use the findings to improve care and to support accurate Title X, CDPHE, and county contract reports. Educate staff and providers on family planning, including program changes and the contraceptive methods CHS has available.
Serve as CHS’s day-to-day lead for Title X compliance, keeping clinic practice aligned with local, state, and federal requirements, including Title X and CDPHE subrecipient requirements, and tracking changes. Maintain the family planning policies, procedures, and standing orders, and work with the supervising physician to keep standing orders current, complete, and signed. Track required staff training and documentation, including mandatory reporting of child abuse and human trafficking, and coordinate the patient education materials review that Title X requires. Prepare for CDPHE program reviews and site visits, and carry corrective action items through to completion. Serve as CHS’s primary contact with the CDPHE Family Planning Program; attend required meetings and trainings and bring updates back to the team.
See family planning and STI patients under CHS standing orders and protocols: health history, contraceptive counseling across the full range of methods, method starts and refills within RN scope, injections, pregnancy testing, and clear patient education, consulting the nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, or supervising physician promptly when a visit needs a provider. Test, treat, and follow up on sexually transmitted infections according to CDC and CDPHE guidance, including expedited partner therapy where appropriate, partner notification support, and required CDPHE disease reporting. Process and document lab and imaging results promptly in the electronic health record, notify patients, and arrange treatment, follow-up, or referral. Step into clinical coverage when colleagues are out, and keep care continuous when you are: make sure scheduled patients are contacted and time-sensitive needs are covered. Document and code visits accurately and on time, apply the sliding fee scale correctly, and order labs with the correct billing method (patient-paid in clinic or billed to the lab) with the front office and billing consultant.
Fluency in spoken Spanish and English. Many of our patients prefer to receive care in Spanish. An active Colorado or multistate (compact) RN license in good standing, and current BLS certification. At least two years of nursing experience in family planning, women’s health, or sexual health and STI care. Confidence counseling on the full range of contraceptive methods and working independently under standing orders. Organizational skill to run program operations, keeping supplies, deadlines, data, and patient follow-up on track. Careful, timely documentation in an electronic health record, strong follow-through, attention to compliance detail, and openness to chart review and clinical feedback. Discretion with confidential information and a warm, respectful, nonjudgmental manner with patients.
Title X experience, including program reviews or site visits. Program administration experience: inventory and ordering, program data and reporting, or grant compliance. BSN or higher. STI case management experience, including CDPHE disease reporting. Experience in a public health department, community clinic, or other safety-net setting; familiarity with CureMD.
